Reading gives you the vocabulary.
Moreover it is a solitary activity that you can do whenever you have some time alone, at your own pace and choosing the method you prefer: you can choose to read out loud for a while to focus on the pronounciation and then move on to the vocabulary and look up all the words that you don’t know.
In particular, highlighting phrases, taking notes or writing down new words will help you memorize them and fix the correct spelling in the process.
If you intermediate or advanced texts, you also have the chance to find idioms and sayings or even just see the most compicated structures in real contexts.
